Default Maggots In Peas

I grew peas last year for the first time and there were tiny maggots inside the pods when I shelled them. I want to try growing peas again this year but how can I stop the pods having maggots in them?

You could spray with Bug Clear when the peas are in flower or go for the realy expensive option and use enviromesh.

they are the maggots of the pea moth best avoidance is to sow early or late crops which are less susceptible there is no treatment once you have them only preventative treatment before hand which you would have to look at the garden centre for which is best to use

Thanks guys. If I use the enviromesh what about pollination by insects or are peas self pollinating? The other thing I wondered about was mange tout. Do these maggots go for mange tout because you eat the whole pod so you wouldn't know what was in it.

Peas self pollinate cookie so your ok with enviromesh

I found this about pea Moths from Gardening which in which it says Mange Tout is not usually affected because you eat them earlier
