It looks like we're going to be in for a bumper crop of quinces this year, and I'll be picking them soon.
I'm looking for ideas for preserving recipes, I've tried jam in the past and it was a bit gritty, so any other suggestions would be great. |

Thanks for the suggestion Dave, I think jelly could be the solution for my sweet preserve. I managed to sell off a lot of my quinces, so didn't in the end get round to making it.
I did make some quince chutney, which was great over Christmas. Recipe is here. I also tried membrillo (quince cheese), which was also nice with the Christmas cheese board, it goes really well with a strong cheese. It's simple enough to make as essentially it's very thick jam. Recipe is here. I'm hoping the tree is now going to produce lots of fruit each year, in which case jelly will be first on the list. |

I was lucky enough to be given some quinces last year and I made quince jelly from the quince juice but I peeled and deseeded the quince before doing this so I made membrillo with the left over 'paste'.
I hope I'm lucky enough to get some more this year, if so then I'll definitely be trying that quince chutney - my garden is too small for anything large like a tree, the quince was a relelation - so fragrant (and pretty as a jelly). |
