I don't think it's too late to grow runner beans and my neighbour has just planted some peas.
There's lots of salad stuff you can grow and I'm sure others will advise you.
Why not stick in a row of leeks ready for next year - nothing like fresh leeks.

Adam you can also grow from seeds beetroot, swede, turnips, carrots, spring cabbage, pak choi and when the ground warms up florence fennel. Try and buy some tomato plants from the garden centre as well.

Thanks LJ

I've got lots of little moneymaker toms in my little greenhouse awaiting to be transplated outside.

Will get some more seeds when i'm out tomorrow.

I diced up a cherry tomato last night and got the seeds out, what are the chances they will grow??

Saving seeds from shop bought veg is always hit and miss. If that cherry tomato was an F1 variety then the seedlings will not grow true to type. It might have been grown in the mediterranean and the variety will not be suitable to grow in the UK or the tomato might have been irradiated to lengthen it's shelf life.

Only one way to find out and that is give it a go! Have a look at my tomato seed saving guide.

if you save seed from toms or seed from oranges and lemons they are coated with a germination suppressant (natural)to stop them germinating in the fruit so wash with fairy liquid and dry before planting out

you can plant most seeds still and you can aid germination by starting them in a greenhouse but beware if temps rise too much they will not germinate lettuce are not tolerant of temps above 70c plants from nurseries will produce but you may have to restrict toms to smaller crops to get the most from them

Last day for Thompson and Morgand half price seed sale today - each item will have details of sowing times - or get your seeds in early for next year at a fair price - just ordered 20-odd packets!
