Not sure if this is the right place but!!!!!!

Been reading Bob Flowerdews book of gourmet gardening, interesting read so far! OH has also read and is a chef, uh oh!( guess who bought the book!) So now HE wants me to grow ginger! Off he went to the chinese shop with mental picture of good buds in head and has returned with a fine ginger rhizome! \

So according to Bob I must cut thumb inch pieces with good bud on, then leave to dry fora couple of days, i guess this is to allow calous to form so the thing doesnt rot! Into 14 "pots , well drained and warm. So how deep do i plant these things? Do i need the bud to be showing or bury it?

Hoping someone out there has some xperience of growing ginger!!!!!!!

Sandra whenever someone asks me if it is possible to grow ginger I always refer them to the Plant Cultures growing guide from Kew Gardens but reading it all it says is to bury the piece of ginger. It's a good simple growing guide though.
