you might just get away with a late maincrop variety if you pick one thats quick to grow and crop

I sowed mangetout directly in the ground last Sunday and was surprised to see a mass row of seedling poking their heads through yesterday morning. I've even got seedlings coming through from the Asparagus peas sown last Tuesday.

sow kwonder now and protect with fleece light levels and moisture are the key so feed with potash fertaliser weekly and water daily

try in tubs and under cloches
