I grew Feltham First peas this year. They dont seem to have a good yield and have read that others have better flavour.
So, I have looked on T&M and have found far to many to choose one! I am looking for a pea that gives a heavy crop with good flavour, preferably one that i can succession sow, or maybe a couple of varieties to keep us going through the season. I garden on a sandy soil, if it makes any difference! I am also looking for spring cabbage seed, what would you all recommend and why? Many thanks, Sandra |

Hi Sandra,
Where peas are concerned I have also found the varieties that I grew to be very short with a poor yield. So I have been recommended to grow Alderman and Purple Podded peas. Both are tall heritage varieties and apparently very tasty. Alderman Peas are available here. The Organic Gardening Catalogue Purple Podded are here. http://www.greenchronicle.co.uk/acat...ble_Seeds.html Both are available here. http://www.mammothonion.co.uk/shop/7/index.htm |

Hi Lesley,
Many thanks for the information. I will give the Alderman a try i think. I cant believe how cheap the seeds are from the green chronicle, and the selection is brilliant. Thanks again, Sandra x |

I'd give a vote to Hurst Greenshaft for yeild & flavour. Also Waverex, a petit pois type, but the seeds are getting harder to find now - www.chilternseeds.co.uk has them though

Hi Stanhol,
I bought seeds from the Real Seed Company. Unfortunatly, the mice had them from my allotment. I then planted some out from Wilkinsons. They tasted supurb and I had a heavy crop from them. I think they were a quid a packet and there were enough for about 20 - 30 plants. |
