Default Questions on tomaotes !

Hey there, I'm new here, and relatively new to food gardening.

First of all I am growing Italian beef tomatoes and they're in the germination phase, I was wondering how often should I be watering them?

I have one seed per seeding pot, about the size of a plastic cup. I now realize I could have put more in each pot for germination lol.

And when will they start to sprout? They've been on the windowsill for 3 days.

Thanks

Hi Sky, I always sow one seed per pot with tomatoes then you don't have to transplant the seedlings into individual pots. The compost needs to be kept damp but don't overwater as seeds can rot. Germination can be any time from 7 days onwards and I give the seeds plenty of time to germinate as not all seeds germinate at the same time.

Mine germinated quite quickly. I sowed them in paper pots on 4th March. I kept them on a sunny windowsill & occasionally *dribbled* water on them to keep the compost moist (not wet). Some germinated within a week, others longer (up to 3 weeks) and one not at all. I've already moved some into bigger pots and they look as if it won't be much longer before they need repotting once more.

Mind you, this is my first attempt so I'm probably being lulled into a false sense of security by Mother Nature before I manage to kill them all off..
