Hi all...
I love Asparigus so have finaly disided to grow some... Iv planted 5 one year old crowns in a 10" trench... the bottom 5" of which was a sand/soil/compost mixture build up to a ridge. 3 of the plants are doing very well and are now a foot tall... but 2 of the plants got to about 4/5" and then turned brown and died... and idears why?... it seemed to happen when we had a cold/windy spell.... dose this efect things?... Cold weather just stops the asparagus growing and it shrivels a bit. Sorry to potentially bring bad news but I can only think that this is probably Foot and Root Rots. Did the die back start at the bottom? If it is that then you will have to remove the affected plants and the soil around them as it is a fungal disease. John The Vegetable Bed (Powered by CubeCart) |
