Hello
I'm new to gardening and the forum. Just recently moved house, and have inherited some broad beans from the previous owner. The bean pods are growing rapidly. How do i know when they are ready to pick for the pot? Is it down to size, colour or perhaps the pod will start splitting? Thanks for any advice. |

I pick mine just as the bean inside starts to show. they are nice and young and the scar where the bean joins the pod should be green. always pick from the bottom of the plant and hold the plant as yountake of the pod to save damage to plant. use scissors or something to cut them of is better. it's said that nthe beans are to old when the scar goes black but I love them all the time. they freeze well so if you have a glut save them. watch for black fly and pinch the soft growing tops out before to lond as the fly will go for the soft growth. good luck
