Smile Asparagus

Hi all ,Im a new member,,and new to growing veg,i am growing the usual veg like peas, beans ,carrots ,and potatoes,but i want to try to grow asparagus,can anyone give me any tips as how to start?

Hi Brian,

I had 30 free seeds from MOreVeg.com and grew them from seed this year. I started them off in the usual way and when they started sprouting, i put them in weed free ground with plenty of compost. They seem to be growing really well nad i'll let you know how it goes.Apparently though, i can't use the spears for 3 years !!

Eeerr Paul, make that SEVEN years. It`s 3 years if you plant crowns.

Paul, when I had an allotment I tried growing Asparagus from seed, I nutured the plants for six and a half years, then moved plot.
