Default Runner Beans & Broad Benas

Hi everyone,
I am really, really new to this game and unsure what to do with my runner beans and broad beans. I planted them a few weeks ago in pots and put them in the sun lounge. Some are now about a foot high and I have heard that its best not to put them outside yet because of frost.
Have I started too early???
Help would be appreciated

Hi Cartsbj, welcome!! The broad beans are fine outside as these are frost hardy but you need to wait until after the last spring frost before planting runner beans outside. The last spring frost is estimated for mid May where I live.

Angry Beans

Hi Lesley Jay,
Seems I have dropped a clanger then. I reckon I could be known as "Jack" from now on as they will no doubt be 20 feet tall by the time I can plant them outside. Do you know of any way to stop their growth or is it best I just start again in a few weeks time.

Hi Cartsbj, if you have spare seeds left over then I would sow another batch of runner beans now - April is the right time to start runner beans off.

I don't like wasting plants, so you could pot them up into a large container with canes for support putting the container outside during the day and bring it back into the sun lounge in the evening. It might work! The Met Office are predicting night time frosts and even snow over high ground for the rest of this month.

Thanks all for your help. I will try the pots in and out and hopefully will get a crop. I have some more seeds so will sow them towards the end of the month. No doubt I will have problems with my other "veggie ventures" so look forward to contacting you again soon.
