Unhappy Potato Assistance required ASAP

help !!

I was going to plant the potatoes..and still haven't. I have only grown them for the past 2 years in bags the first time and in a homemade wooden bed type thing - both worked well. However I have more potatoes than I thought (I seem to do this with everything I plant).

I read in a garden centre about planting potatoes on top of each other. Is this possible ? How do you do it ? Does it work ? I have late early and maincrop.70 in total

I have never heard of that before. I don`t see how it would work.

I had some over & was told as long as they had not started chitting, I could keep them in the fridge so I could plant them out later. I'm hoping to plant them out July/August for a xmas crop.........Fingers crossed.

Question

I have managed to find the leaflet....after rummaging through the night...

it is about growing them in containers and it says

'half fill a large pot with compost and put in 4 or 5 chitted potatoes well spaced, sprouts facing upwards.Cover with another layer of compost - about 8 to 10 cm - and then another 4 or 5 potatoes..'

Can this be done in a raised bed situation ?

How do they get enough room to grow if they are on top of each other?

Give it a go & see what happens. You may get smaller spuds if they are competing for nutrients.
