Default Chilli's

Anyone growing chilli's this year?

I have anout 7 different types growing. Mainly Thai type chilli's but also the famoud Bhut Jolokia (Ghost Chilli).

Adding one of those to a curry guarantees fun the following morning

My second year growing them I find them very easy with little effortrequired, so next year i'm trying different varieties. How does everyone raise them i keep mine in the house, are they better in a greenhouse?

mine get spoilt rotten...seeds 'cracked' in wet tissue, put in sieved sterile (baked) soil with tweezers, fed organic liquid nutrients, they get grown indoors in a temp/humid/co2-o2 controlled environment

then again i'm sure most people don't do this

Mine stay in our sunny porch in a heated propagator until they are too tall for the lid to stay on, then i move them onto a window until they need putting in 10inch pots, then i bosh as many as i can into the greenhouse.

I tried using a LED grow light this year as a propagation lamp to give them a headstart in Jan... absolute rubbish.

Growing Ghost chillis', Fatali, hinklehatz, espanola, joes long cayenne, and several thai varieties.

I'm growing some bird's eye at the moment, one of them is about 5 inches long the rest have just sprouted. I've got some local varieties here too but I have yet to start planting them.

I've planted hot lemon for the first time. I've heard that it has a lemon flavor. Is there any one who has harvested this kind of chilli.

Thanks a lot Reweed for your post. I'll try this after harvesting them. Do I need to take any kind of precaution regarding this vegetable?

Got some jalapenos and 'joes long' (??) in this year - want to try pickling some jalapenos.

Still got last year's chili plant growing on the window ledge, it's been going strong all winter and I've about a dozen red, ripe chilis ready to pick

as far as i am aware they are an annual plant even in the tropics...they will die after a year.

there may be a way of 'tricking' them into rejuvenating - light cycles/temps etc...never tried.

It is possible to over-winter them, apparently you have to trim them back and cut the root ball down, i've seen photo's of some chilli plants in the caribbean that are 6ft by 6ft, that can't just be a years growth surely?

you would be amazed how big some plants can get in one season - a hemp plant can produce a small tree in 7-8 months
