Default Courgette F1 One Balls

Hi All

Growing F1 One Ball yellow courgettes for the first time. Just started to harvest them.

The first I allowed to grow to a diameter of about 3", about the roundness of an old standard light bulb.

The next few I harvested earlier, about 2" in diameter.

Have to say that I didn't find that they had a lot of taste contrary to what the advertising blurb said about them being super sweet and delicious. They certainly had no firm courgette taste (at least to my mind) that you would get from shop bought std green courgettes.

Have I harvested them too early? Too late?

Anyone else out their grown this variety? If so what do yours taste like please?

Thanks

Hiya yes I am growing these but your well ahead of me mine are only about an inch. Grew them last year as they are so easy to grow. I agree the taste was only just okay but they do look great and I love all different colour veg.

Thanks Sue

Looks like I'm doing fine then. As you say this variety is easy to grow and the courgettes themselves look beautiful. The taste is very mild and subtle.
I've tried harvesting them now at 3 different stages which I would classify as :

1. Gobstopper size
2. Ping Pong ball size
3. Tennis ball size

There was no discernable taste difference between any of them but letting them grow to tennis ball size or just smaller than that is hugely satisying as they nestle in the palm of your hand nicely and have a really good weight to them. We're getting 5-6 courgettes on each plant at a time and we plan to make some funky coloured chutneys with any excess we get.

The chutney sounds great I have about 12 plants and each has about 5 courgettes growing on. Last year ours were possibly a bit bigger than a tennis ball and some about that size. Last year I made runner bean chutney as I had so many.
