Default Broccoli taking over the world.

A friend and I decided to try our hand at growing veg, so far with a large amount of success. We have had several crops from our Spinach, however our question is with regards to the Broccoli we are growing. The plants themselves have shot up and are beginning to take over the bed. Is it ok to prune back the leaves?

Thanks in anticipation

Matthew

Hi Matthew, welcome to our forum!

Broccoli plants do grow really large and the plants do need their leaves to produce energy and grow the broccoli heads. You can eat the leaves like spring greens but this will mean a smaller plant and a smaller crop.

Sadly I'll find out how small this makes your plant because a bloomin sheep got in and ate the leaves off my two plants! Grrr. Totally ignored teh multitude of lettuce leaves that needed cutting back, and just ate my flourishing broccoli!
