Default splitting garlic

Just noticed a couple of my garlics have splits in there stems above the soil. Any ideas why this is happening?

Looks to me like it's going to seed. When did you plant them?

PLanted them last winter (Dec, I think), like I always do. I had a few run to seed over the years, but none of them ever split like this.Wondered if it was too much water, we had rather a lot of rain recently. So far none has run to seed, and the once I have pulled so far are lovely, so I guess I'll just eat them anyway
