Default How Many

How many tomato plants are you growing? I want that many next year, I only just started to grow my own this year and thought that three plants would be enough but its not...

Theres 15 plants in the greenhouse, maybe a couple too many? think we will plant 10 next year so we have more room for other stuff!

I never used to like tomoto's untill we started growing them, i've always heard people say that they taste better when you grow your own but never believed them

I can now honestly say that home grown tommys taste nothing like shop bought, I love em

Thanks Lesley

Thats amazing, I can't have that many but looking at how many you have almost ready and green ones I reckon I need about 6 plants next year and I need to grow them inside. This year I started them off inside but then transfered them out at the end of May, I don't have space for a green house... I'm sulking now....

Hi Hellou, you don't need a greenhouse for growing a great crop of tomatoes. I have always grown tomato plants outside rather than in the greenhouse. When I had my allotment plots I used to grow 40 tomato plants each year! (Okay a bit of nice weather does help! )

I am so green with envy. My tomatoes are just green ! I have loads of them but in Dublin, we need a bit of sunshine to ripen them up.

A watched tomato never ripens.

yep mine too but did i read somewhere that if theyve not ripened by the end of the season i can bring the fruit inside and ripen them on the window sill? I've only got two plants this year, loads of green toms on though

Great job Matt! You've got a fantastic harvest going there. You're right about the toms tasting alot better when you grow them yourself . What variety are the large red ones? One piece of advice, don't stand still in your greenhouse too long, the toms might not let you out!

Hi Husker

Not exactly sure what the big ones are? we bought the seeds in Venice, Italy, and the writing is in Italian

They are a strange looking tomato but taste lovely

Matt

If I remember my few words of italian the name means 'tomato heart of the west'. I don't know if there is any variety with a similar name about

Hey I am Italian so I perfectly understand the seeds instructions! Hehe!
Yes, it's "tomato heart of the west" though I have no idea what kind of species that is. I'm not an expert on tomatoes, I just know that the long shaped ones are called San Marzano, the others just look like regular tomatoes to my eye!

However, if you need any help translating the instructions for future reference, just tell me!

Still getting a few tomato's in mid september they are slowing a little now, but we've had hundreds this year

Pic taken a minute ago...

I'm not too sure these are going to turn

Yesterday we thinned the plants but didn't have the heart to cut them down

Matt
