Default Green Toms

How the bloody hell do you know when green toms are ready? I mean they smell ok, are nice and firm but not rock hard and are the green colour as described on le packet.

But hhmm, they don't appear to be ready yet, and when i cut one open it was erm. Unripe.

Anyone else growing any odd varieties?

Hi Reweed.I planted green toms last year. The way I could tell if they were ripe was to gently squeeze them. When they felt like the other varieties did when they were ripe I picked them. They also got some faint yellow streaks when they were ready. I didn't plant that variety this year, "Aunt Ruby's German Green" because it just didn't put on very many toms. I plant all heirloom type toms, purple, yellow, yelow&red, red, orange, and pink so I guess I do plant some odd toms, but they sure taste great. Hope this helps. Good luck
