Default Cauliflower

Hi folks

Looking for a little advice about my cauliflowers.

They started off fine - lovely heads with nice white, tight florets - until they got to about 4-5 cm diameter. Then I'd turn my back for a day or two, and they'd start to turn brown and the florets would part and look as if they had passed.

Dr Hessayon tells me (through his book) that it is a boron defficiency... Should I give up on growing them next year, or is there a fertiliser you can recommend which will give them what they need to grow big and strong?

Many thanks, Windsweptstina

Hi Windsweptstina. I'm not sure about the lack of boron, but that sounds like something you could correct with fertilizer. Have you had a soil test done? That could tell you if you're lacking nutients. Do you tie up the leaves of your caulies? I was taught that I needed to do this so the heads won't get sunburned and turn brown. Don't give up, it may be the year too.
