Grey Zucchini Flowering??
Hey there...i planted my first vegetable garden in my backyard this year, and so far everything has been pretty successful, however, the thing i figured would be the easiest to grow has proved to be a challenge for some reason...i planted zucchini in the spring, and it grew well, however i didnt know yet about the Vine Borer...my plants began to wilt, and before i knew it it was too late and they had been taken over....so i uprooted and killed all the vine borers, and moved to another spot in the yard.... i decided i was going to plant these plants in there own individual hills or mounds....i dug about a 2 foot wide and 1 foot deep hole and filled it with good compost that i had in the compost pit i mounded the mounds about 6 to 8 inches high and planted the seeds on July 24...the seeds sprouted quick and the plants are doing good...i controlled the vine borers on this crop with marigolds planted around and neem oil on the vines....the plants have started to flower, and i can see the should be zucchinis with the little flowers on the end....however all ive had open up so far is the male flowers...the female flowers havent opened yet and one of the female flowers actually has turned brown and didnt open at all....is this normal for the first couple of female flowers to not bloom or should i be concerned....i have some Alaska Morbloom 0-10-10 and i was thinking it may help to give it a little dose of this to help the flowering stage along....any advice or comments is greatly appreciated....i love zucchini and id love to have some homegrown!!
Thanx
