Default Butternut squash?

My butternut squash didnt do so well this year, mainly because they were smothered by courgette plants. However I have got 1 small squash about the size of a fist, which has just a hint of orange colour to it. As the courgettes have now finished and have been removed, the squash is getting more light. However am I correct in thinking that it is way too late for this squash to ripen?
If I pick it and bring it indoors, will it ripen (like toms do) or is it even usable as it is now, or should I just bin it and give them more room next year?

theres nothing wrong with eating squash 'unripe'. I usually eat some green in the summer and ripen some for eating through the winter. The unripe ones are easier to peel.
