Ive never really had any success with cucumber and aubergines and wondered if anybody had any tips to get a good harvest this year? I seem to do ok with the other veggies! Cheers ![]()

Have to admit our aubergines failed last year so am working on that. With cucumbers have not really found any difficulty. We plant small plants (about 2 - 3 inches high) outside towards end of April and space them about 2 ft apart to give them room as they like to spread. Soil-wise if you are a techie I think was about 8 on the scale?, and we make sure we water well in the dry and pick regularly to allow more to grow. We've found them to be devious little beggars and one day you can look and there is not alot, a couple of days or so and they are all over the place.
Hope this helps. regards dilboy |

Yes cucumbers are fairly easy, especially if you have the all female variety. I grow them outside and just make sure you water well and feed with a tomato or seaweed feed. If you buy the ordinary variety you have to pick the male flowers off as otherwise they will make the females taste bitter (metaphor for life - only joking
)We used to grow aubergine galore in our tunnels but actually last year someone gave me a plant and I planted it outside in a pot with just soil from the garden against a hot wall it produced 2 aubergines. They thing with aubergines is don't let too many fruit form also feed and water them well.

aubergins are best grown in tunnels or green houses cucumbers early f1 type again need to be in side and need constant watering but only from below cues do not like overhead water when small
both do not like cold nights or drafts |
