Default Peas - better this year

This is my 2nd year growing veg. Am very behind as was ill at crucial time and unable to do anything for a few weeks. However things are looking up.

Last year the peas I sowed in May never germinated so had to sow another lot, middle of June which did (kelvedon wonder). This year decided to sow them in the greenhouse to start. My sister gave me a contraption for making pots from newspaper. have used these and they have come up very well so are now in garden and doing well. Some I sowed in covered trays in plastic rolls, like guttering, so one can slide the whole thing into the bed when sprouted. They have not grown as well. Just sown some more using both those methods and some straight into soil to see the difference.

Keep us posted Vegnovice10. I'm always interested in experiments and it sounds like you've got a good one going. Post some pics if you get a chance. Hope you're feeling better now.

Default Experiment results

Transplanted my peas today into the garden. I had sown them on 14th May, some in newspaper pots, some in a tray with removeable inserts, like guttering, both in seed compost in unheated greenhouse. Some were put straight into the ground. All seeds had been soaked overnight in water first. I sowed most in paper pots of which a few are in the photo.

I attach photos of the results. The ones sown in pots I made from newspaper are the clear winners.

The birds had all of my early ones even with netting. So I have bitten the bullet and bought some small plants which seem to be doing okay (Fingers crossed). All the best with your crop
