Default Red Onion

I have grown red onion in my raised bed, the shoots are growing rapidly but th bulbs seem to be dying...... anyone know whats goin on with them?

As far as I'm aware, this is quite natural. It's happening to my Red Barron Onions as well.

What I've read is that the onion first puts all it's energy into growing the roots & shoots, and only then does it start growing the bulb. I guess that makes sense because it needs the roots and shoots to get energy (food, water, and sunlight), and without energy, it can't make us a delicious tasting bulb.
