When to pick

Its my first time growing anything, how red do the tomatos have to be, some one told me to pick them when they are orange and put them in the window, is that right, cheers jeff

Nice crop of toms Jeff. As we can't wait to pick our first tomatoes of the season we take them when they are orange and put them on a warm sunny windowsill to ripen off. However once they all start to turn and there are more available it will be possible to let them fully ripen on the vine. Brian

cheers i have 4 plants the same as them, they were a packet of seeds from our local pound shop ha ha, jeff

You can just let them riping on the plant - but if impatient bring them in. There is nothing nicer then homegrown tomatoes.
