Smile winter veg

I am new to this lark so am looking for a guide to good veg to plant now. I have successfully raised onions, spuds etc. this year, but want to continue through the winter.

Help!

From good garden centres you should still be able to get winter and spring cabbage plants,ie Christmas Drumhead,Flower Of Spring etc, also late planting spuds which might give you a small crop in time for Christmas. You could also try Radish,Parsley and Chives.JB

yep there's a whole range of things you can do over the winter.

it's probably a bit late for the brassicas which will over winter because they will need to be well established before the frost sets in, having said that brassicas can be eaten before they mature in most cases. which leads me onto the next option, baby veg, you should have time to get a crop of beetroot/chard maybe carrots and tatties (as above). leeks are a good choice in the onion department and spinich is a good salad/green veg crop, but again it's a bit late for this year.

at the end of the day it's all about planning ahead and experimenting with what works for you in terms of time available, your space, environmental conditions and most importantly what you want to eat and therefore grow.

and welcome to the forum

I am planting Winter lettuce as my salad crop has saved me around £1.50 a day (We use a bag a day) alone.
