Default Jerusalem artichokes not flowering?

We're in France and it's been a lovely hot summer. Any ideas?

As far as I know they don't flower. You dig them up like potatoes and use the tubers.

I believe they have sunflower like flowers. And yes you eat the tubers.

Unhappy

I too have grown Jeruselem Artichokes and mine haven't flowered this year or last. They are related to sunflowers but yes you eat the tubers. Beware tho they contain a carbohydrate that gives you cronic flatulence. They are also know are fartichokes!

This I have also found. To such an extent that I am
Wondering if growing them is just completely impractical!..

They are probably best grown if you have someone you'd like to play a practical joke on!

Default Oh Those Fartichokes!!

I've grown 4 containers (60litre compost bags) of them. They haven't flowered either, but I'm really looking forward to the harvest! My wife and I tend to eat them alone and then giggle quite a lot for the rest of the evening!

After the discussion I went to look at my artichokes and they are flowering!

I got my tubers from Thompson & Morgan and as usual they were delivered at just the right moment - can't fault the guys there!

I must be patient though. I so want to harvest some but I know if you dont let the plant die off they are all slimey as the starch hasn't formed properly.

Growing the in pots sounds like a plan no need to dig and you know you'll get them all. If only my wife found flatulence as funny as me. I'll grow up one day!

Mine are not flowering yet - to be honest I completely forgot what they were until I was reading this post and realised that this is what I planted there, ooops, but according to my book you do have to wait until the foliage dies back like Jess said.

For the flatulence problem: spice it with a bit (it is a strong spice so take care!!) asafoetida, I do the same with beans - really helps! Although my other half likes to take a bath when he has gassy digestive problems as he thinks it is hilarious to see the bubbles (secretly I do think it is funny but would NEVER admit, lol).
