it makes a difference but only a few degrees c, however having said that a few degrees can make a big difference. there are things you can do to improve the insulation of a greenhouse such as adding bubble rap to the inside.

it depends how tender the plants are, if its just a case of keeping them above freezing then this is possible without a lot of work or money, whereas growing tropical orchids in a greenhouse isn't practical unless you're loaded.

I have a large lean-to greenhouse and reckon it puts a month on either end of the growing season for me. Not sure from your post if you are talking about vegetables or flowers/shrubs but if it's edibles then I'd say a greenhouse is well worth it. Mine keeps us in lettuce and spring onions right through the winter and gave us our first new potatoes on April 29th this year.

A green house will help extend the season on both ends. I have an unheated greenhouse and I put row covers over my plants as the temperature drops. this give double protection against lower temps. If the temperature rises I take the row covers off till night. In the winter this helps with cold season crops. In the fall and spring it gives you a head start on peppers and tomatoes.
