Default Is Drip feed watering the best way forward?

Hi Folks,
Long time no chat
I have a question. As stated I live right on the south coast and have a south facing garden Nice you might think but last summer I was having to water twice a day as the heat was intense in the garden and the my stuff in the dustbins were drying almost as soon as the water hit it
I have a sprinkler but I can't just leave it running so I am thinking of putting in a drip feed for my tubs and growbags.
What do you think would that be enough as temperatures can reach over 100 deg in my garden at the height of summer
Any suggestions welcome
Smeag

If you are growing things in containers can you rig up some form of reflection/shade to keep the direct sun off the roots?

The only way you'll know if the drip feed is giving enough water is to try it and see but if the soil/compost is very warm I suspect it would just evaporate before it could do any good.

Living in Cumbria I'm probably not the best person to advise on dry conditions

Thank for the reply .
My garden is in the sun from about 4 am until 10 pm and is directly south facing so shade is a problem. I even put the bins etc up on blocks as most of the garden is patioed as I am disabled.
I will just have to give it a try unless some genius comes up with solution

Hi Smeagal, I suggest you have a read of Scarecrow's Garden blog. Scarecrow and her husband Doc live in the dry Mid North of South Australia where she battles against scorching hot temperatures, no rain and a water shortage to grow some fabulous veggies! Scarecrow's blog is a great read aswell !!

Can I throw a suggested plan for watering my garden at you all for comments on whether it would work or just soak everything in sight.
Right this will be a bit long winded but please persevere
I only have one feed which runs down the side of the house through the fence and then into my garden.
Now I grow most of my veg in dustbins or plastic tubs/sacks or grow bags due to being disabled my garden has just two boarders and the rest is container grown.
My plan is to get a 4 way adapter and run two drip feeds one for the tomatoes cues and salad stuff which normally are in plastic troughs and growbags
and one for the potatoes, peppers ,garlic and onions.
the other two feeds will be for watering the fruit bushes and one spare for normal cleaning.
I was going to up load photos but I have to find out how to clear the cashe as it is full.
Anyway suggestions welcome. will upload pics when I can.

Once you have it properly set up and in place, drip feeding is great. Its so low maintenance, plus its very efficient. I say go for it.
