Default Peas Kelvedon Wonder to swap

I found the packet of Pea seeds and I have quite alot left. I don't know if I will be able to sow any more this year, it depends on how quickly the ones I have now get used it.

The variety is Kelvedon Wonder and they say they can be sown into July. Pea : Garden : Kelvedon Wonder (Seeds) Would anyone like to swap anything for some?

I must say, they have been easy to grow and don't grow too high - and importantly are delicious!

I have some left over too but perhaps they'll be ok for next year.

Just wanted to ask as they are the variety I'm growing how tall do they get? I'm wondering how tall the stakes I'll need are. Did you have many plants? I'm so new to this and not sure still how many stakes to put in as my sister told me the traditional way is one per plant but I've got a lot of plants!

thanks Susan

It was our first time at growing any kind of veg this year and we were very lucky with the peas, unfortunately, we only put small and arched 2ft canes in first with twine running in a zig-zag between the plants. This worked well... as you can see below:

But foolishly we left it until the plants were alot taller than the canes and over night they collapsed with the weight. We had clearly not spaced the peas evening either as there was a huge amount of vegetation at the front and little at the back. I then had to make this messy structure with lots of 5ft canes:

However, the plants never grew much taller than what you can see in this above pic. Maybe 3ft at the most. I don't know if Kelvedon is a more short or drawf variety - perhaps it was just my lack of appropriate structure.

Nevertheless, even with that disaster we had lots and lots of delicious peas! They are almost done now I think for us though!

Thanks Hollie

In the end I bought some 4 foot canes and got a bundle of 20 from local shop. Also had some already and some large twigs so put them all in and they seem to be growing ok and finding the support so keeping fingers crossed.

I looked at the packet again!! and it said they are a dwarf variety. I planted mine 14th June and they were up in about a week. now about 15 cms tall.
