Default Freezing Bread

Sorry this has nothing to do with vegetables!

I know you can freeze bread and toast it from frozen but can you freeze bread and then defrost it to use as 'fresh' bread or does it end up soggy?

I do this regularly and it seems fine to me. I freeze the granary bread because hubby does;nt like it and by the time i get through the whole pan it gets stale so i freeze it instead and use as i need it.

There is only the OH (the other LJ) that eats bread. I have to have bread in the pantry 'just in case' he wants any. You know what they are like - he can't eat stew without bread and chips have to go between two slices of bread! Problem is the bread just isn't being used up and I am throwing such alot away. It's just gone up in price as well. So I need to defrost a few slices at a time. Will that work?

I regularly freeze bread too and never had any problems with sogginess. Makes no difference if its homemade or bought.

LJ I always freeze my bread as there is only two of us, and I take out each day the number of slices I need, and its always been alright.

I Freeze wholemeal baguettes and they're always O.K.
Oh, UG. If you stand on the crust end, doesn't that make the whole loaf go flat?

A tip for kids pack lunches, frozen sliced bread keeps fresher for longer when making sandwhiches, especially if they are simple ones i.e cheese only or sliced ham. It defrosts by lunch time and keeps filling fresher, cooler longer.
