Default What type of bush was this?

My neighbour has cut down a bush/shrub today that the birds used to love. It had very early pink flowers. They grew in early spring when the bush had no leaves and also in winter. The leaves grew much later and the birds, blue tits, great tits and green finches used to flock to eat the early supply of buds. Also we get bats flying around the gardens that I presume got a lot of insects from it and other bushes he has cut down. I am so sad that they will come this year and find nothing to eat.

Has anyone got any idea what this bush was so I can buy one and replant it in my garden?
