Default Cuckoo

I heard the first Cuckoo of the year today which is brilliant as I haven't heard one in my neighbourhood for the past two years, they seem to be dying out around here be it trouble here or Africa. What have you all noticed?

Hmm I can't say I've noticed a decline. When I went back to visit my family in Gwent last year they seemed to be in full force!

The cuckoo has to be one of the most hated birds in the UK. It gets such an unfair amount of stick in my opinion. It is an animal, fighting for the survival of its species. Human beings are hardly in a position for critising the cuckoo for colonising the nest of another bird!

This thread sparked my interest so I have done a tiny bit of research and it turns out that the cuckoos numbers are actually declining quite rapidly! I'll link the article rather than explain as this is a lot clearer and I'd essentially just be copying and pasting!

Interesting article. Thanks for the link.

Not heard a cuckoo for many a year...

I couldn't agree with you more! It's we humans who are the destructive force on the planet!
It is man's sacred trust to care for and protect Mother Earth and all living things upon it.
