Leaf Beet Growing Guide- Learn How to Grow your Own

Leaf Beet is a much more desired vegetable which now is becoming more popular. This is with thanks to the many farmers that enjoy growing these brightly colored leafy stalks of vegetable. They are much simpler to grow than many other leafy vegetables and seem to be extremely forgiving, as well. With the different varieties all having their own distinct flavor, you have many to choose from when deciding on the right leaf beet for your garden.


Growing Leaf Beet

The seedlings need to be thinned to about 8 inches apart and watered during dry periods. Adding mulch to your garden area will retain moisture and cut back the watering that will need to be done by you. They should be planted about 1 inch deep into the soil and approximately 4 inches apart in rows. The best time to do this is in April up until July. Adding a liquid fertilizer to your feeding routine can prove to be an excellent choice when you are ready to star picking your vegetables and prepare them for the family to enjoy.


Preparing Leaf Beet

Because leaf beet comes in different varieties, it will depend on the particular variety you have chosen to grow. For the most part all of the leaf beets can be cooked, either steamed, or boiled. Many people have been known to use leaf beet as a replacement or substitute for seakale beet. Leaf beet has a similar flavoring and taste as spinach, so any usual way you would prepare your spinach you could also prepare the leaf beet.
